Lawsuit against Jennifer Lopez Dropped; Lopez Plans to host a Kid-friendly Gala
Puerto Rican music artist/ actress/ celebrity Jennifer Lopez was sued by writer Jack Bunick regarding the idea behind South Beach. As an executive producer of the South Beach drama series, Lopez was accused of stealing Bunick’s idea. According to Bunick, the concept behind South Beach was suspiciously similar to a pilot episode he authored for a TV program entitled South Beach Miami.
Aside from Jennifer Lopez, CBS Television and UPN or United Paramount Network were also included in the case. However, Judge Richard Berman declared that the case cannot be held on trial due to inadequate evidence. Furthermore, Judge Berman noted that the defendants were able to present powerful evidence behind their claims that the South Beach series was created independently. According to the papers submitted by Lopez’s legal representatives, Jeniffer Lopez was barely involved in the actual development of the series and was only included in order to lend some celebrity power to the show.
However, just after eight episodes, the South Beach drama series was canceled. The cancellation was due to low-viewing figures and poor reviews.
Lopez Plans to Host A Kid-friendly Gala
On the lighter side, Jennifer Lopez plans to host the 3rd annual Noche de Ninos benefit gala. Lopez stated that her children inspire her to be a better person and to contribute something to the world. Along with Giselle Fernandez — founder of Noche De Ninos and Lynda — her sister, J. Lo came up with a concert that benefits kids. J. Lo also mentioned that contributing to charity is her way of setting up a good example for her kids.
An annual event that’s known for its celebrity-studded list with many other famous personalities in attendance, Noche De Ninos benefits the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. As part of Jennifer Lopez’s commitment to help children who are in need, this year’s gala aims to help out the 93,000 seriously ill and injured kids that are annually treated by the hospital. This year’s event will include spectacular performances by Hispanic celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Alejandro Sanz, Juanes and Mana, and Marc Anthony. The star-studded charity event will be held on October 11, 2008 at the Nokia Center.
